Vocal students coming to the SPOLETO STUDY ABROAD program will study voice twice a week on a one-on-one basis: technique, breath management, postural/alignment issues, style, diction, interpretation, and stage comportment. Singers also will rehearse and coach at least twice weekly with Italian musicians on the faculty. Both classical and music theater selections may be the selected works for study and we emphasize Italian and American solo pieces given our faculty and setting. Students bring or request music of particular interest to them. Individual goals are set and worked toward preparing for college auditions, for their school’s musical or their state’s honors chorus, solidifying technique, and learning new repertoire. |

Students will have opportunities to solo in performance workshops and/or recitals, to sing in smaller chamber music duos and trios, and to sing in the choir, which rehearses four times a week and presents a number of concerts throughout the region. Our choral repertoire has included Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater with orchestra, Renaissance motets and madrigals, mass settings spanning the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods, American spirituals, and musical theater medleys. |
