This afternoon session is designed for photography majors, which stresses the rich eclectic history of photography through aesthetics and critical analysis to better understand what makes photography an art form. Students will read excerpts by famous photographers and historians on the importance of a ‘critical eye’, which will guide the development of a personal vision. During the course, students will be challenged to explore their personal style through field assignments and self-designed projects. Students will examine ways in which to capture the spirit of the Italian culture through diverse approaches to encourage personal growth and a deeper awareness of the viewing audience. Projects include, but are not limited to, the study of color theory in color photography, the Umbrian landscape, architecture, portraiture, street/documentary photography and abstraction. Students will be required to bring a 35mm DSLR digital camera, adequate digital card storage, battery charger and a laptop with imaging software such as Adobe Photoshop. |
