2 week photography course
Umbrian Landscape & Architecture: Capturing a Sense of Place
Are you ready to explore your personal vision and create magical photographs that surpass the familiar images of Italy? Imagine spending hours each day exploring Spoleto, various nearby hill towns and surrounding nature while training your photographic eye.
In this course you will be introduced to a wide variety of nature, landscape and architectural photo genres through the study of masters in photography. In addition, you will explore your creativity through lens choice, camera angles, lighting and custom function settings on your camera. The course is very hands-on through on-location photo assignments and some photo editing. Though image editing will be studied in this course to complete your final photo essay, the emphasis is placed on image capture and soaking up the beauty that Italy has to offer!
You will enjoy a one-hour morning workshop on the fundamentals of digital photography and a three-hour afternoon photography seminar, which will address the topic of the Umbrian Landscape & Architecture.
The morning photography workshop is designed to focus on the fundamentals of photography. Development of perceptual skills as well as the creative use of the digital camera will be taught. Using a digital camera with manual overrides, students will increase their understanding of the aperture, shutter, ISO, white balance and exposure compensation settings.
In the afternoon photography seminar, students will have the opportunity to experience individual mentoring with the instructor and collaborative peer learning during field trips and photographic shoots. A final photo essay capturing the Sense of Place will be the culminating project for this two-week session. Students will be required to bring a digital camera, adequate digital card storage, battery charger and a laptop with imaging software. A digital SLR with 18mm or 28mm lens is recommended but not required. Please feel free to contact the instructor to discuss equipment needs.
